On Saturday, November 2, I’ll be presenting on “The Value of Literary Correspondence” with author Karen Hill Anton.
Japan Culture Center of Western NY Book Club (Kanazawa)
On May 18th at 8:00 am (Japan time) I will be discussing my novel Kanazawa online with members of the Japan Culture Center of Western New York. The JCC-WNY is based out of Buffalo, which has been a sister city of Kanazawa since 1962.
Book Launch Party for The Heron Catchers
On November 25th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., a free book launch party for my third novel, and second in a series to be set in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan, will be held at Jōmyōji temple along the Asano River in Kanazawa. Snacks and drinks will be served, and a book giveaway will also be organized. At the end of the event, I will be selling my new novel, The Heron Catchers, at a discounted price and signing copies for anyone interested.
Book Signing @ Kinokuniya in Tokyo
On Friday, December 2nd, the Kinokuniya bookstore in Shibuya, Tokyo, will host me for a book-signing event for my novel Kanazawa.
"Book Break" Event at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (Marunouchi, Tokyo)
At the FCCJ in Tokyo, I will discuss my novel Kanazawa, with a special focus given to the local cultural elements I incorporated into it, especially the works and biography of Kanazawa-born writer Izumi Kyōka.
Doors open at 6:00 pm, with dinner served from 6:15 pm. My presentation begins at 7:15 pm and lasts until 8:30 pm. Dinner + Presentation costs ¥4000 for non-members and ¥3000 for members of the FCCJ. Zoom attendance costs ¥550.

Talk on Kanazawa at Earlham College
On Monday, April 25th, I returned to my college alma mater, Earlham College, to give a talk sponsored by the Japanese Studies department and the Institute for Education on Japan. The talk focused on my novel Kanazawa, but I also spoke about how I became a Japanese Studies major at Earlham; the life paths I took after graduating from the college; how I became a writer; and how at the age of 41 I returned to Japan to live and work. The event was held in the Lincoln Room of the Landrum Bolling Center.
Talk on Lotusland & Self-Promotion
On October 11th I'll grab a train down to Kyoto to give a presentation about my novel and discuss self-promotion, with a focus on organizing a reading tour. The event will be held at The Gael Irish Pub in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto.
Engaging with Vietnam
I have been invited to give a keynote session presentation in Hanoi, Vietnam, at the 7th Annual Engaging with Vietnam Conference. The conference runs from July 7-8 and will be held at the Hanoi University of Business and Technology.
Reading, Presentation, and Q&A
I will be presenting on my novel to all-comers at the American Center of the US Embassy in Hanoi on July 6th at 3 p.m. It will be geared to Vietnamese speakers of English, but anyone is welcome to attend!
Presentation on Lotusland and Q&A
I have been asked to present on such topics as "American Perspectives on Contemporary Vietnam" and "Writing about Foreign Cultures," followed by an audience Q & A session.
Prose in the Park Literary Festival and Book Fair
Come catch me in Ottawa on June 6th when I'll take part in a panel discussion titled "Writing on Vietnam." Other panelists include Caroline Vu and Vincent Lam, and the panel will be moderated by Denise Chong.
Resonance Reading Series
I'll be in Montreal on June 3rd to take part in the Resonance Reading Series at the venerable Resonance Cafe.
